Afrocentric Learning

If you don’t know your history, you don’t know where you are going. At the NACA we support public and private education. We will always work with the established public education systems to ensure that there is more Black academic and Black History representation in its core curriculum for the benefit of all students.

Although many Black Canadians excel in public education, many also find themselves not finding success and falling through the gaps and cracks. Our support for Afrocentric learning systems provide support to minimize these gaps to allow for all Black Canadians to have a supportive and successful learning system that builds confidence and self-pride of our Afrocentric history and contributions to the greater society.

Educating Black Canadians and all Canadians about Black history and our contribution to the world is paramount to our future success. The NACA education pursuit is to establish and strengthen the learning and re-energize Black Canadians in an educational dialog on Afrocentric learning structures. The NACA Educational department has the overall responsibility for Afrocentric educational activity within various Afro Canadian communities – including activities generated by the Department itself, as well as that of the local communities and significant educational initiatives in the Diaspora. The department gives directions and attentively monitors and supervises the Movement’s educational activity.

The reality of large regions, country-to-country, community-to-community variations and communication gaps all too often isolate Afrocentric Institutions from one another. Additional negative effects emerge from the surge of post-modernism, postponing and often altogether removing ideological dialog and discourse in the communities. It is the Department’s expressed aim to invigorate ideological dialog and discourse based on Afrocentric ideals. The Department’s method is to create learning communities, meaning groups of Afrocentric members engaged and connected to one another in continuous study and learning of the central issues and aspects of the modern black and Afrocentric experience. Through our programs, curriculum and seminars we will attract and educate intuitive Afrocentric minds.

Planning, marketing and implementing Afrocentric programs

Planning, marketing and implementing Afrocentric programs within the NACA is essential. Others are planned directly according to the requirements of a particular region to meet the needs identified by our community research.

Afrocentric education is dependent on participation in the program; hence the NACA is responsible for educational content of all curricula. Advanced training adapted to various regional and communal needs will also be conducted.

Establish more Black led learning institutions

Our goal is to establish more Black led learning institutions to fulfill the needs of local Black communities. The NACA is involved in developing programs to combat anti-racism and the continued learning about negative effects of slavery and much else tailored to specific requests from various Black communities.

Our vision is to maintain a network enabling Black Community members to share and enjoy the great depth of creativity, accumulated knowledge, and the rich didactic experience of Black led academic institutions. We will work with established international Black Education institutions who are aligned with our Afrocentric mandate.

Education and Leadership training

Education and Leadership training is the rich kaleidoscope and frequency of activity in our programs. Our participants enjoy very strong volunteer leadership, backed by professional staff members who deal with day-to-day operations and share the spirit of total volunteerism.

Similarly, some participants have institutions that offer daily, weekly and monthly programs, while others concentrate on project-led activities around events ranging in scale from small to extremely large.
